Youth The Irish Red Cross in Limerick has members from the age of 12 up. These members play a vital role in the organisation. From the age of 16 up, youth members are part of our senior units and train on basic and intermediate first aid, basic life support, ambulance and radio skills and lots more. Up to the age of 16, a youth member will be a "cadet". Cadets are the unit members of the Irish Red Cross who are aged between 12 and 16 years. The cadets learn Basic First Aid, Basic Life Support (CPR) and play a vital role in the society. Youth members train weekly, both while doing their courses, and afterwards, to keep the level of skills up-to-date. While First Aid is the basis for our youth programmes, all our youth members enjoy an active programme both in and out of the weekly training sessions. First Aid Competitions, outdoor activities, social events, day-trips as well as weekends away are all on the agenda for our youths. In 2004 Limerick youth members won the Irish Red Cross All-Ireland Cadet Team as well as the Novice Team and Individual competitions. Competitions play an important part of the training and allow our members to put their skills into practice. Our cadet and senior units meet across the city and county. Members over the age of 16 actively take part in our senior units in Limerick City and County, while our cadets meet in dedicated cadet units. In Limerick city, Cadet units meet at
In the county, we have cadet units in
