Practical First Aid

The Irish Red Cross Practical First Aid Course provides participants with a thorough grounding in the fundamental knowledge and skills of First Aid. Topics covered include:

  • How to approach the scene of an accident
  • Choking and C.P.R.
  • Wound Care
  • Burns
  • Poisoning
  • Unconsciousness
  • Fractures
  • Sports Injuries
  • Paediatric emergencies

The course takes 12 hours and is typically run one night a week for 6 weeks, although alternative arrangements can be put in place for group bookings.

Upon successful completion of the course, which does not have an examination, but is based on attendance and participation throughout the course, participants receive an Irish Red Cross Certificate in Practical First Aid. The certificate is valid for two years.

The Practical First Aid Certificate is also the minimum requirement for admission to further first aid training courses within the Red Cross.
